About

Chris Cain grew up throughout North and South Carolina, arriving in Sumter, SC in 1988 where he survived Hurricane Hugo in 1989 and graduated from Sumter High School in 1990. Chris studied at the University of South Carolina and graduated from Coastal Carolina University in 1995, earning a B.A. degree in English and Political Science. After graduating from Coastal, Chris attended Stetson University College of Law in Gulfport, Florida where earned his Juris Doctor.

After law school, Chris was admitted to practice law in South Carolina in 2005 and in Texas in 2019. He worked in firms on cases ranging from personal injury to insurance to real estate transactions before moving to Houston, Texas in 2007 to work on environmental matters involving the major oil companies. In 2016, Chris returned to Sumter, SC where he joined the Third Judicial Circuit Solicitor's Office under the Honorable Ernest A. Finney, III as an assistant solicitor in Williamsburg County. In 2019, Chris moved back to Texas and joined the District Attorney's Offices in Van Zandt and Henderson Counties where he prosecuted misdemeanor and felony charges. He also married his wife, Yvonne, during this time in Texas

After 4 years of prosecuting in Texas, Chris and his wife decided it was time to move someplace smaller than Houston. It was only natural to return to Sumter, SC. They purchased a house and moved to Sumter in August, 2024. From October 2024 through January 2026, Chris was a contract public defender for the Third Judicial Circuit Public Defender's Office in Williamsburg County. During this time, he has also successfully handled criminal and personal injury cases for a number of clients.

In September, 2025, Chris decided that it was time to open his own law firm in downtown Sumter where he focuses on criminal defense, DUI/DUAC/BUI defense, personal injury, and real estate not only in Sumter County, but throughout the State of South Carolina. He is a member of the State Bars of South Carolina and Texas, the Sumter County Bar Association, and the South Carolina Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

Chris is married to his wife, Yvonne of Houston, TX. They attend Saint Anne and Saint Jude Catholic Church in Sumter. In his free time, he likes to travel, play golf, and attend concerts.
